The film and the Disney animated feature

Beauty and the Beast is a Disney animated film released in 1991, inspired by the traditional French fairy tale La Belle et la Bête. It is considered one of the masterpieces of the so-called Disney Renaissance, thanks to the quality of its animation, the depth of its characters and the central role of music in the storytelling.

Brief plot

The story is set in a small French village and in an enchanted castle. Belle is a young, intelligent and sensitive girl who loves books and feels different from the other villagers. In order to save her father, Belle agrees to take his place as a prisoner in a castle inhabited by a frightening Beast.

The Beast is in fact a prince who has been placed under a spell as punishment for his arrogance. Only by learning to love and to be loved can he break the spell before it is too late. Over time, Belle discovers the Beast’s true nature, and a sincere feeling grows between them, leading to the final transformation and the happy ending.

The role of the Main Theme

The Main Theme accompanies the most intense and romantic moments of the film, highlighting the inner growth of the protagonists. From a musical point of view, the theme is characterised by:

  • a broad, singable melody;
  • gentle and refined harmonies;
  • a flowing character that conveys tenderness, nostalgia and hope.

This musical theme has become one of the most recognisable in the history of animated cinema and perfectly represents the central message of the film: true beauty comes from the heart.
