Il celebre tema del Lago dei Cigni, tra le pagine più iconiche del repertorio ballettistico ottocentesco, prende vita in questa versione per violoncello solo con nuova intensità e introspezione. Originariamente concepito per orchestra, questo motivo dolce e malinconico accompagna la figura del cigno – creatura insieme eterea e tragica – e racchiude l’essenza lirica dell’intero balletto.
The famous theme of Swan Lake, one of the most iconic pages of the 19th-century ballet repertoire, comes to life in this version for solo cello with new intensity and introspection. Originally conceived for orchestra, this sweet and melancholic motif accompanies the figure of the swan – a creature both ethereal and tragic – and encapsulates the lyrical essence of the entire ballet.
L’arrangiamento per violoncello solo mette in luce la natura cantabile dello strumento, capace di avvolgere l’ascoltatore con il suo timbro caldo e umano. La voce del violoncello, sola e nuda, si fa portatrice di un’emozione intima, quasi confessionale, restituendo la struggente bellezza della melodia con semplicità e profondità. Attraverso l’uso di registri contrastanti, l’arrangiamento esplora le potenzialità espressive dello strumento, rendendo omaggio al romanticismo di Čajkovskij pur con una veste sonora nuova ed essenziale.
The arrangement for solo cello highlights the singable nature of the instrument, capable of enveloping the listener with its warm and human timbre. The voice of the cello, alone and naked, becomes the bearer of an intimate, almost confessional emotion, restoring the poignant beauty of the melody with simplicity and depth. Through the use of contrasting registers, the arrangement explores the expressive potential of the instrument, paying homage to Tchaikovsky’s romanticism while using a new and essential sound.
Un ascolto attento permetterà di cogliere i piccoli dettagli timbrici, i respiri e le sfumature che arricchiscono l’esecuzione: ogni nota si fa gesto, ogni pausa diventa spazio emotivo. È un invito a lasciarsi trasportare nel mondo sospeso e incantato del balletto, filtrato attraverso la voce profonda del violoncello solo.
A careful listening will allow you to catch the small timbre details, the breaths and nuances that enrich the performance: every note becomes a gesture, every pause becomes an emotional space. It is an invitation to let yourself be transported into the suspended and enchanted world of ballet, filtered through the deep voice of the solo cello.
La trama del balletto, modellata su diverse fiabe popolari russe e tedesche, si svolge in Germania e narra la triste storia d’amore tra il Principe Siegfried e la bella Principessa Odette, trasformata in cigno da un maleficio del perfido stregone Rothbart. Odette, tutte le notti a mezzanotte ritrova insieme alle sue compagne le sembianze umane per alcune ore. Una notte incontra il principe Sigfried che si innamora di lei e giura di liberarla. Viene dato un ballo al castello perché Sigfried scelga una fidanzata, ma durante il ballo appare Rothbart vestito da cavaliere con la figlia Odile vestita da cigno nero così da apparire in tutto simile a Odette. Sigfried sedotto la sceglie come sposa ma in quell’istante appare Odette, e lui capisce di essere venuto meno al giuramento e corre via verso il lago dove Odette e le sue compagne piangono per il loro destino. Sigfried riconosce di essere stato infedele e lei lo perdona ma Rothbart scatena una tempesta che affoga entrambi. In un’altra versione c’è il lieto fine in cui Sigfried lotta contro Rothbart rompe l’incantesimo e salva Odette e le sue compagne.
The plot of the ballet, modeled on several Russian and German folk tales, takes place in Germany and tells the sad love story between Prince Siegfried and the beautiful Princess Odette, transformed into a swan by a spell cast by the evil sorcerer Rothbart. Odette, together with her companions, regains her human form for a few hours every night at midnight. One night she meets Prince Sigfried who falls in love with her and vows to free her. A ball is given at the castle so that Sigfried can choose a bride, but during the ball Rothbart appears dressed as a knight with his daughter Odile dressed as a black swan so as to appear in every way similar to Odette. Sigfried, seduced, chooses her as his bride but at that moment Odette appears, and he realizes that he has broken his oath and runs away towards the lake where Odette and her companions cry for their fate. Sigfried recognizes that he has been unfaithful and she forgives him but Rothbart unleashes a storm that drowns them both. In another version there is a happy ending in which Sigfried fights Rothbart, breaks the spell and saves Odette and her companions.
