The Lied ohne Worte in D major op. 109, published posthumously, was composed by Mendelssohn in 1845. The cello plays a predominant role here by devoting itself to a sentimental song, vaguely melancholic, but always vibrant and passionate. The structure of the romance is tripartite (ABA). The first part presents the main theme, delicate and dreamy, exposed by the soloist over a regular and “lulling” accompaniment of the piano. In the second part, in a minor key, the speech becomes agitated: the singing of the cello is more intense and passionate, the accompaniment of the piano comes alive through fast arpeggios. The third part is a shortened shot of the first followed by a short concluding tail.

The Lied ohne Worte en re mayor op. 109, publicado póstumamente, fue compuesto por Mendelssohn en 1845. El cello juega un papel predominante aquí, dedicándose a una canción sentimental, vagamente melancólica, pero siempre vibrante y apasionada. La estructura del romance es tripartita (ABA). La primera parte presenta el tema principal, delicado y soñador, expuesto por el solista sobre un acompañamiento regular y “arrullador” del piano. En la segunda parte, en una clave menor, el discurso se agita: el canto del violonchelo es más intenso y apasionado, el acompañamiento del piano cobra vida a través de arpegios rápidos. La tercera parte es una toma acortada de la primera seguida de una corta cola final.
